SUMMARIZES THE RESULTS OF A PRELIMENARY SURVEY OF THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY OF CHEMICAL PROCESSING OF THE SPEND FUEL ELEMENTS. THE 4 ELEMENTS CONSIDERED ARE: METALLIC URANIUM CORE, AL JACKET; 50% ZR-50% URANIUM CORE, ZR JACKET; UO2-MG MATRIX CORE, STAINLESS STEEL JACKET; AND THORIUM CORE, ZIRCONIUM JACKET. PROCESSING TECHNIQUES TO BE USED (INCLUDING CRITICALITY RESTRICTIONS, CLADDING AND CORE DISSOLUTION, AND SOLVENT EXTRACTION), AND THE PLANTS SELECTED FOR OPERATING COST ANALYSIS AND DESCRIBED AND ESTIMATED OPERATING COST FOR THE 3 PLANTS AND 4 FUELS ARE PRESENTED.
