Description/Abstract:
TO EVALUATE THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF VARIOUS FUEL ELEMENT MATERIALS IN THEIR PRODUCTION CONFIGURATION AND DETERMINE THE EFFECTS OF ANY MATERIAL IMPERFECTION ON THES PROPERTIES, THE BURSTING TEST WAS INITIATED. INTERNAL PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE INTERIOR OF CORED FUEL ELEMENTS BY APPLICATION OF LOAD TO A CENTER CORE OF PB. THE PB UNDER PRESSURE FLOWS PLASTICALLY AND TRANSMITS THE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE WALL OF THE SPECIMEN. SPECIMEN DEFORMATION READINGS ARE TAKEN DURING THE TEST. THE DATA OBTAINED ARE USED TO INTERPRET THE TYPE AND EVALUATE THE QUALITY OF THE MATERIAL BEING TESTED.
