Description/Abstract:
A PROGRESS REPORT ON WORK BEING DONE ON TESTING THE EFFECTS ON ANIMALS OF THERMAL AND COMBINED THERMAL AND IONIZING RADIATION ENERGY. THERE ARE THREE MAIN AREAS OF STUDY ONE IS A STUDY OF THE LOCAL EFFECTS OF RADIANT THERMAL ENERGY ON ANIMAL SKIN AS A FUNCTION OF EXPOSURE TIME, IRRADIANCE AND PULSE SHAPE. ANOTHER IS TO EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF IONIZING RADIATION SUPERIMPOSED ON BURN INJURY WITH THE ULTIMATE AIM BEING TO UNDERSTAND THE INTERACTION OF THE TWO TRAUMA AND AN EVAULUATION OF THE INTERACTION IN TERMS OF LETHALITY AND OTHER DAMAGE.THIRDLY TO STUDY THE SYSTEMATIC EFFECTS OF THERMAL BURNS WITH EMPHASIS ON THE PHASE FOLLOWING RECOVERY FROM THE SHOCK.
