Description/Abstract:
(CONT'D FROM TITLE) (JOURNAL OF CLINICAL INVESTIGATION, VOL. 36, MARCH 1957, PGS 479-84) (PARTIAL). SERIES OF DOGS. DURING THIS STUDY THE RATE OF RUBIDIUM-86 UPTAKE IN SEVERAL REGIONS OF THE HEART OF CONTROL DOGS WAS MEASURED, AND THE EFFECTS OF 1-NOREPINEPHRINE AND PITRESSIN ON DIFFERENCES IN REGIONAL RUBIDIUM-86 UPTAKE WERE DETERMINED, SINCE THESE DRUGS RESPECTIVELY INCREASE AND DECREASE OVERALL CORONARY BLOOD FLOW. WHEN CONTROL DOGS WERE GIVEN RUBIDIUM-86 INTRAVENOUSLY, THE MEAN RATE OF RUBIDIUM UPTAKE BY THE LEFT VENTRICLE WAS 45 PERCENT FASTER THAN BY THE RIGHT VENTRICLE. THE RATE OF RUBIDIUM-86 UPTAKE IN THE ATRIA WAS SIMILAR TO THAT IN THE RIGHT VENTRICLE. THESE DIFFERENCES IN THE RATE OF RUBIDIUM-86 UPTAKE ARE BELIEVED TO BE RELATED TO DIFFERENCES IN THE RATE OF EFFECTIVE BLOOD FLOW, ALTHOUGH OTHER FACTORS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED.
