Description/Abstract:
(CONT'D FROM TITLE) (JOURNAL OF LABORATORY AND CLINICAL MEDICINE, VOL. 34, NO. 1, JANUARY 1949, PGS. 1-13). FAILURE OR FROM CHRONIC GLOMERULONEPHRITIS OF THE NEPHROTIC TYPE. BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF THE EXPERIMENTS, THE TRUE BIOLOGIC HALF-LIFE PERIOD WAS NOT MEASURED DIRECTLY. INSTEAD, THE TIME NECESSARY TO REDUCE THE SERUM CONCENTRATION TO ONE-HALF THE INITIAL LEVEL AFTER THE ESTABLISHMENT OF EQUILIBRIUM, AND THE TIME REQUIRED TO ELIMINATE ONE- HALF THE INJECTED SODIUM-22 IN THE URINE WERE DETERMINED. THE IMPORTANCE OF THESE OBSERVATIONS AND THE RELATIVE GENERAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THESE TIME PERIODS IN THE BIOLOGIC APPLICATION OF RADIOELEMENTS, PARTICULARLY RADIOSODIUM, ARE DISCUSSED.
