Description/Abstract:
SEVERAL EXAMPLES WHICH DEMONSTRATE SOME ASPECTS OF THE BIOLOGICAL USE OF RADIOISOTOPES ARE CONSIDERED IN THIS REPORT. THE FOLLOWING GENERALIZATIONS CAN BE MADE FROM THIS BRIEF SURVEY OF BIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF RADIO-ELEMENTS: (1) ELEMENTS FROM INTERNALLY DEPOSITED RADIOACTIVE ELEMENTS PROBABLY BRING ABOUT THE SAME BIOLOGICAL EFFECTS AS EXTERNAL SOURCES OF RADIATION. (2) THERE ARE MAJOR DIFFICULTIES IN MAKING COMPARISONS. (3) THE FACT THAT CERTAIN ISOTOPES ARE CONCENTRATED BY LIVING ORGANISMS HAS BEEN USED TO AN ADVANTAGE.
