Description/Abstract:
THIS REPORT IS CONCERNED WITH THE MANY PROTECTIVE AGENTS AND SITUATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED FOR THE HIGH ENERGY OR IONIZING RADIATIONS. ONLY THOSE PAPERS THAT HAVE PARTICULAR RELEVANCE TO BASIC MECHANISMS IN RADIATION BIOLOGY AND FROM WHICH REASONABLE DATA AND CONCLUSIONS COULD BE OBTAINED HAVE BEEN INCLUDED. THE EFFECTS OF RADIATION ON NATURE AND THE GENERAL PROBLEM OF RADIOSENSITIVITY IS DISCUSSED. SOME ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO THE RADIOCHEMICAL EVENTS IN WATER THAT ARE RELEVANT TO INTERPRETATION OF THE PROTECTIVE MECHANISMS. ADDITIONAL SOURCES, FOR DETAILED SURVEYS OF THE BIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF IONIZING RADIATION, ARE GIVEN.
