EDINGTON'S MEMORANDUM OF JUNE 27, 1984. ENCLOSED FACT SHEET ON PLUTONIUM STUDIES AT THE CENTER FOR HUMAN RADIOBIOLOGY (CHR). ENCLOSURE; PROJECT NAME: PLUTONIUM STUDIES AT THE CENTER FOR HUMAN RADIOBIOLOGY (CHR). DATE STARTED: JANUARY 2, 1973. DATE TERMINATED: ONGOING. PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATORS: R. E. ROWLAND, A. F. STEHNEY. OBJECTIVES OF TEST: 1) TO DETERMINE THE EXCRETION RATE OF PLUTONIUM 27 YEARS AFTER INJECTION. 2) TO DETERMINE THE RETENTION AND BODY DISTRIBUTION OF PLUTONIUM. DESCRIPTION: 18 HOSPITAL PATIENTS OF LIMITED LIFE EXPECTANCY WERE INJECTED WITH PLUTONIUM TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ABOUT THE RETENTION AND ORGAN DISTRIBUTION OF PLUTONIUM. IMPORTANT OBJECTIVE WAS TO DETERMINE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE BODY CONTENT AND THE RATE OF EXCRETION IN ORDER TO PROVIDE DATA FOR ESTIMATING THE BODY CONTENT OF PLUTONIUM FROM MEASUREMENTS A IN EXCRETA (BIOASSAY).
