Description/Abstract:
TWENTY-FOUR PAGE REPORT "THE QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF PLUTONIUM IN BIOLOGICAL MATERIALS - PART I. THE ANALYSIS OF URINE" WRITTEN BY E. R. RUSSELL, J. SCHUBERT, AND J. A. JACKSON DATED JUNE 11, 1946. PART I OF THE SERIES OF THREE PAPERS DEALS WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF METHODS FOR THE QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF PLUTONIUM IN URINE. SINCE METHODS APPLICABLE TO THE DETERMINATION OF MINUTE QUANTITIES OF PLUTONIUM ARE USUALLY APPLICABLE IN DETERMINATIONS OF LARGER AMOUNTS, THE REVERSE NOT ALWAYS BEING TRUE, THE METHODS DISCUSSED TAKE THESE FACTS INTO CONSIDERATION. THE THREE GENERAL TECHNIQUES, ABSORPTION, SOLVENT EXTRACTION, AND COPRECIPITATION, USED IN THE SEPARATION OF PLUTONIUM FROM UNDESIRABLE CONSTITUENTS, ARE DISCUSSED IN CONNECTION WITH THE ANALYSIS OF URINE SOLUTION FOR PLUTONIUM. A DETAILED OUTLINE OF EACH ANALYTICAL METHOD IS GIVEN WITH A BRIEF DISCUSSION OF THE APPLICABILITY OF THE METHOD.
