Description/Abstract:
THIS FOUR-PAGE TYPEWRITTEN DOCUMENT IS LIKELY THE ENCLOSURE TRANSMITTED WITH THE LETTER IN DOCUMENT #700040. THE DOCUMENT, ENTITLED, "PLUTONIUM STUDIES AT THE CENTER FOR HUMAN RADIOBIOLOGY (CHR), IS SIGNED BY R. E. ROWLAND AND DATED NOVEMBER 8, 1973. THIS COPY OF THE DOCUMENT HAS 15 OR SO HANDWRITTEN UNDERLINED WORDS OR PHRASES AND HAS THE WORD "WHY" WRITTEN IN ON THE FIRST ITEM OF PAGE 3. THE DOCUMENT STARTS BY MENTIONING THE STUDY STARTED IN 1945 AND DESCRIBED IN LA-1151, DISTRIBUTION AND EXCRETION OF PLUTONIUM ADMINISTERED INTRAVENOUSLY TO MAN, BY W. H. LANGHAM ET AL., DATED SEPTEMBER 20, 1950. THE DOCUMENT NEXT DESCRIBES THE VISIT OF DR. PAT DURBIN ON DECEMBER 13, 1972, AND GIVES HER SUGGESTIONS AND PLANNING FOR A FOLLOW-UP STUDY. NEXT IS A LIST OF FOURTEEN ITEMS BY DATE BETWEEN DECEMBER 21, 1973 AND SEPTEMBER 24, 1974. THE ITEMS ON THE LIST ARE ALL RELATED TO THE STUDY OF PLUTONIUM IN THE SURVIVING INJECTEES. SOME ARE MEMOS; SOME ARE DATES WHEN PATIENTS VISITED STRONG MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN ROCHESTER. HAVE THE THIRD PATIENT BROUGHT TO STRONG HOSPITAL, FOR EXCRETA COLLECTION. THE DOCUMENT ENDS WITH A DISCUSSION OF THE FUTURE ITEMS TO BE DONE. THEY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A THIRD PATIENT BROUGHT TO STRONG HOSPITAL FOR EXCRETA COLLECTION AND THEN PUBLISH A MODEL SHOWING EXCRETION OVER TIME. THEY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ONE, PREFERABLY ALL, LIVING PATIENTS TO WILL THEIR BODIES TO THE CENTER FOR HUMAN RADIOBIOLOGY FOR STUDY. THEY INTEND TO CONTINUE EFFORTS TO OBTAIN EXHUMED CASES. THE REPORT MENTIONS A SUMMARY OF THE STATUS OF THE KNOWN INJECTION CASES AS AN ATTACHMENT BUT NO ATTACHMENT IS GIVEN IN DOCUMENT #700041. THE TABLE IN FOLDER #700042 IS DATED NOVEMBER 8, 1973 AND IS, NO DOUBT, THAT ATTACHMENT.
