Description/Abstract:
THESE TWO TYPEWRITTEN PAGES OF THE SECOND DRAFT OF THE NOTES OF MARKS (NO INITIALS GIVEN) DESCRIBING THE INTERVIEW OF THE AUTHOR AND MR. MIAZGA WITH DR. WARREN K. SINCLAIR, DIRECTOR OF THE BIOLOGICAL AND MEDICAL RESEARCH DIVISION OF ARGONNE NATIONAL LABORATORY (ANL) ON APRIL 15, 1974. MOST OF THE DOCUMENT DESCRIBES THE INTRICACIES OF GETTING THE ANL HUMAN USE COMMITTEE TO REPORT TO THE AEC ABOUT THE PLUTONIUM STUDIES. DR. SINCLAIR CLAIMS THAT A MEMO WAS RECEIVED FROM DR. LIVERMAN TO MR. ROBERT H. BAUER (MANAGER OF CHICAGO OPERATIONS OFFICE) REQUESTING THE REPORT (BY APRIL 26, 1974), AND THE REQUEST WAS CONFUSING IN THAT IT WAS THOUGHT TO SLOW UP THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE REPORT TO THE AEC. AFTER DISCUSSION, ANL OFFICIALS AGREE TO HASTEN TRANSMITTING THE REPORT. DR. MARKS ASKED IF THE ANL HUMAN USE COMMITTEE HAD TAKEN UP THE PLUTONIUM PATIENT FOLLOW-UP STUDIES AT ITS MARCH 1993 ANNUAL MEETING AND WAS TOLD IT HAD NOT. AT THAT TIME THE PLUTONIUM STUDY WAS CONSIDERED TO BE ADEQUATELY COVERED BY THE CENTER FOR HUMAN RADIOBIOLOGY BASIC PROTOCOL ON HUMAN RADIOACTIVITY STUDIES, APPROVED BY THE COMMITTEE IN 1971. NO NEED WAS SEEN FOR DISCUSSION WITH DR. R. J. MICHAEL FRY, CHAIRMAN OF THE HUMAN USE COMMITTEE.
