LAMPF...A PROTECTIVE WIRE MESH ENCASES THE SIDE COUPLED CAVIATY PRIOR TO INJECTION OF A PROTON BEAM AT THE LOS ALAMOS MASON PHYSICS FACILITY (LAMPF), AT THE ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSIONS LOS ALAMOS SCIENTIFIC LABOR ATORY IN NEW MEXICO. THE FACILITY WILL DELIVER A 0.9 MILLAMPERS. 800- MEV. (MILLION ELECTRON VOLTS) PROTON (H) BEAM FOR MESON AND RADIOISOTO PE PRODUCTION AND A SIMULTANEOUSLY ACCELERATED 0.1 MILLIAMPERE, 800-ME V. H- BEAM FOR PROTON REACTION STUDIES AND FOR PRODUCDTION OF HIGH-QUA LITY, INTERMEDIATE-ENERGY NEUTRON BEAMS. THE LAMPF MESON BEAMS WILL B E 1,000 TO 10,000 TIMES MORE INTENSE THAN THOSE PRESENTLY AVAILABLE.
