Labor Standards Committee Case Report. Replace deteriorated and non-functioning fan coil units in the 16 perimeter offices of Building 7910. The existing units will be replaced with A/C Unit Ventilator type devices, with self-contained direct expansion cooling and electric resistance heating capabilities. The project will consist of removal of the old fan coil units and installing new wall sleeves with Packaged Terminal Air-Conditioning units. The existing underground single-pipe heating and cooling system will be abandoned . This work is part of a maintenance effort to provide heating and cooling for the perimeter offices of this building. The offices are now unconditioned and being situated on an outside wall which will require substantial heating and air conditioning. Presently, the only source of heating available is 1500 watt electric space heaters. A means of auxiliary cooling for the summer months has yet to be determined. To alleviate the widepsread and unrecommended practice of heating by means of space heaters and to preclude the summertime problems associated with overheating personal computers, it is advised this proposed solution be implemented as soon as poosible. The estimate for this work is based on the utilization of standard labor estimating techniques. The work will be performed by ORNL forces to minimize interruption to building operations. Work must be coordintated with on-going building activities. It is proposed that this work is accomplished and outages approved one office at a time. $9,000.
