The Battelle Columbus Laboraties roots are in the Manhattan Engineer District contract with Battelle Memorial Institute to perform atomic energy research and development activies. Since the War, Battelle has continued this work under contract at its facility for the Department of Energy and its predecessors. Wastes generated from cleanup of 15 buildings and related external areas that became heavily contaminated with radiological waste as a result of these activities are addressed under this plan. The proposed site treatment plan for the Battelle Columbus Laboratories in Ohio includes a discussion of compliance schedules, waste streams, funding, disputes, covenants and reservations. Low level mixed waste streams for which technology exists are described, and a strategy for TRU mixed waste streams is presented.
