The proposed plan considers treatment of mixed wastes from this active research laboratory, which conducts a wide variety of nuclear energy experiments. For the last 27 years, the Missouri University Research Reactor has supported effective research and development programs focusing on basic life sciences, natural sciences, material sciences, engineering, and technology. Examples of major activities at the site which generate mixed wastes include studies on the effects of trace elements on human health, studies of basic wave-nature of particles using neutron interferometry, contributions to the development of the new magnetic material, MagneQuench, development of radioisotopes for human therapy, and studies on separation of transuranic materials from nuclear waste.
