Description/Abstract:
The State of Nevada and the U.S. Department of Energy enter into this Consent Order regarding the Nevada Test Site and selected government-owned sites around the Nevada Test Site located in Nye County, Nevada, approximately 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas at Mercury, Nevada. The Order requires each department, agency, and instrumentality of the federal government engaged in the disposal or management of hazardous waste to comply with Executive Order 12088. The State of Nevada is authorized to administer a hazardous waste management program. Since DOE owns and is responsible for the operation of the Nevada Test Site, DOE is subject to and must comply with all federal and state requirements respecting hazardous waste. This Order applies to wastes that are specifically identified, whether such wastes were generated or accumulated in the past or present, as well as other compliance matters.
