Description/Abstract:
Correspondence where the AEC has agreed to undertake certain experimental work for the FCDA designed to determine the fallout protection afforded by conventional structures. The work would include initiating a survey of the shielding characteristics of five different residential structures on the Nevada Test Site, considering ten structural modifications designed to improve shielding, developing a test vechicle suitable for making radiation measurements on structures located in urban areas, coordinating studies with NBS and Project Civil, and providing the scientific direction of the radiological survey program. Discussion on incorporating this work in that phase of the Ichiban program which is concerned with the shielding characteristics of structures is referred to. The extent of involvement of ORNL would be obtaining raadioactive sources and assembling necessary measuring equipment, plus assigning competent personnel to supervise the necessary field measurements at the Nevada Test Site.
