Description/Abstract:
Memo describes fission product activity of X slugs, using a knowledge of the energy and intensity of the hard Gamma component of the fission product activity at short times after shutdown of the MTR is necessary for designing the shielding of the discharge chute or estimating the required depth of the water in the canal. Calculations are given, and an experiment where an entire row of the hottest slugs were pushed to the canal from the pile and the radiation intensity measured through seven to eleven feet of water is described. Data is valuable for determingin required thickness of lead shielding.
