Description/Abstract:
The letter discusses request for keeping the ORNL RaLa produciton facilities in standby for "perhaps six months after the Idaho plant has achieved produciton operation". No objection is raised; however, the condition of the equipment and the expenses that would be incurred should be considered. It is mentioned that the only maintenance that could improve the present poor condition of the equipment would require costly, extensive deconntamination work and a great deal of personnel readiation exposure. Only one more run is definitely scheduled for the current operation, and the expenditure of additional money for equipment improvements, with the attendant radiation exposure of personnel, does not appear justified unless absoluteley necessary.
