This document concerns the minutes of the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant Nuclear Safety Committee Meeting, November 3, 1961. A total of 14 formal audits and about 75 informal checks made revealed only three nuclear deviations from established procedures. Some topics mentioned were the installation of a space recorder in the K-1420 oxide fluorination purge gas line, which should reduce the possibility of uranium accumulations in the K-1302 vent stack, and the completion of sediment removal operations at the K-1407-B holding pond. It was indicated than an annual savings of $50,000 in operating costs should result from the relocation of the top product withdrawal facility from K-306-7 to K-305-9, and that the elimination of long runs of lines with highly enriched uranium had improved the nuclear safety of this operation. It was also reported that 52 separate UF-6 withdrawals had been made, ranging in U-235 enrichment from 1.2 percent up to product level material, and ranging in weight from a few grams to several thousands of pounds. Two programs of current interest were the investigation of criticality parameters at low U-235 enrichments; and, at high U-235 enrichments, the determination of critical separations of individually subcritical units in large arrays.
