Description/Abstract:
Correspondence dated January 5, 1989, and February 1, 1989, concerns the ORNL plan for continued use of the High-Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) Surface Impoundment, 7905. The plan is for maintaining the 7905 surface impoundment (pond) in readiness for use as an interim emergency containment facility. It will be used to accept any contaminated blowdown water that may be generated at the HFIR cooling tower in the future in the event of a heat exchanger leak. It was requested that the Tennessee Department of Health and Environment (TDHE) provide written confirmation on this understanding, and it was requested that the TDHE Division of Water Quality be notified of the plan to avoid any misunderstanding.
