Description/Abstract:
This report discusses how the industrial processes for producing AEC grade Thorium metal are evaluated in regards to unit costs, metal purity and degree of development. Cost considerations, however, are applied only to the two methods that are considered to be continuous, i.e., the ORNL "Metallex" process and the Horizons, Inc., "Electrolytic" process. Figures of thorium inventories, analysis, cost data, and flowsheets of the various processes are included.
