This memo discusses the question raised of proper computation of curies discharged daily into the Clinch River to be in compliance with the requirements of "Rules and Procedures Concerning Radioactive Substances and Associated Hazards" which specifies maintaining a level of activity discharge no greater than 5.0 curies per day without prior approval for exceptions from the Health Physics Division Director. It is hoped that experimental work and results of investigations will help develop a method of treating the discharge from the tank farm prior to dilution and prior to addition to the Settling Basin in order to remove a large fraction of the activity completely rather than rely on a process of dilution to indetectability.
