Description/Abstract:
DR. HAMILTON, BROOKHAVEN, DISCUSSES THE LOGIC IN STATING THAT HE BELIEVES THAT 100 RADS WOULD BE A REASONABLE LIMIT ONE MIGHT EXPECT TH TOTAL BODY TO RECEIVE IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TREATED FOR CANCER WITH PIONS. HE WARNS, HOWEVER, THAT THERE MIGHT BE PROBLEMS WITH CATARACT FORMATION AT THAT DOSE AND RECOMMENDS SHIELDING THE EYES DURING TREATMENT. THE MEDIAN DOSE THAT PRODUCED CATARACTS WAS DETERMINED TO 100 RADS IN CYCLOTRON WORKERS.
