Description/Abstract:
GROUP H-7 HAS BEEN INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE OF AN IMBALANCE BETWEEN THE SUM OF PLUTONIUM AND URANIUM ACTIVITY AND THE GROSS ALPHA COUNT. POSSIBLY AMERICIUM MAY ACCOUNT FOR THE DIFFERENCE. "GREEN THUMB" REPORT WAS MADE AT ACS MEETING CONCERNING STRONTIUM-90 UPTAKE BY GRASS, LETTUCE, AND ALFALFA. WORK IS CONTINUING ON POLONIUM AND CESIUM RATIOS IN SOILS AND PLANTS. SOLUTIONS OF BARIUM SALTS HAVE BEEN EFFECTIVE IN THE ELUTION OF STRONTIUM-90 FROM TUFF. ALUMINUM DID NOT PROVE TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN BARIUM.
