Description/Abstract:
THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE SERVICES ADMINISTRATION FIELD RESEARCH OFFIC E (ESSA/FRO) PROVIDED WEATHER PLANNING AND PREDICTION FOR THE SAFETY P ROGRAM OF THE PALANQUIN EVENT. OBSERVATION OF WINDS AND WEATHER CONDIT IONS BEGAN PRIOR TO THE EVENT AND THE WEATHER AND RADIOACTIVITY FORECA STING SERVICE COMMENCED ON APRIL 7, THE INITIAL READY DATE. DURING THE FOLLOWING WEEK, THE WINDS AND WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE SUFFICIENTLY ABN ORMAL THAT THE PLANNED FIRING CRITERIA WERE NOT MET, RESULTING IN DELA YS. ACCEPTABLE WEATHER OCCURED ON APRIL 14, AND ALL METEOROLOGICAL CRI TERIA WERE MET. TRAJECTORIES FOLLOWED REASONABLY CLOSE TO PREDICTIONS, BUT EXPOSURE LEVELS EXCEEDED PREDICTIONS.
