LAGOON CIRCULATION AT ENEWETAK ATOLL, MARSHALL ISLANDS, IS DOMINATED B Y WIND-DRIVEN WESTERLY SURFACE FLOW AND MID-DEPTH RETURN FLOW TO THE E AST. ATOLL FLUSHING IS ACCOMPLISHED BY WATER INPUT OVER THE WINDWARD ( EASTERN) REEFS AND SOUTHERLY DRIFT OUT THE SOUTH CHANNEL. MEAN WATER R ESIDENCE TIME IS 33 DAYS WITH THE WATER WHICH ENTERS THE NORTHERN PORT ION OF THE ATOLL TAKING ABOUT 132 DAYS TO EXIT.
