Description/Abstract:
THE RECENT EXTENSIVE ADVANCE IN THE RADIATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY H AS LED TO CONSIDERABLE EXTENSION IN THE RANGES OF ENERGY AND INTENSITY AS WELL AS INCREASE IN THE TYPE OF RADIATIONS WHICH MUST BE HANDLED I N RADIATION DOSIMETRY. ACCORDINGLY, THERE HAVE ARISEN URGENT NEEDS FO R DEVELOPMENT OF DOSIMETRY STANDARDS SUITABLE FOR WORKS USING SUCH RAD IATIONS. HOWEVER, THE PRESENT STATUS OF THE DOSIMETRY STANDARDS IN TH IS COUNTRY IS NOT SATISFACTORY TO FULFIL THE NEEDS. SINCE OBVIOUSLY U NSOPHISTICATED EXTENSION OF EXISTING STANDARDS CAN NOT COPE WITH SUCH A SITUATION, IT IS NECESSARY TO RECONSIDER THE FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPT AND PHILOSOPHY RELATED TO RADIATION DOSIMETRY. FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF TH E RECONSIDERATION, TABLE I IS PRESENTED, AS A TENTATIVE GUIDE, WHICH M AY BE USEFUL FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THOS E QUANTITIES RELATED TO IONIZING RADIATION DOSIMETRY. MOST OF THE PHY SICAL QUANTITIES RELATED TO IONIZING RADIATIONS MAY BE CLASSIFIED INTO ANY ONE OF THE CATEGORIES AS SHOWN IN TABLE I. THIS KIND OF CLASSIFI CATION IS CONSIDERED TO BE USEFUL FOR SELECTING SUITABLE STANDARDIZING METHODS TO DETERMINE THE DOSIMETRIC QUANTITIES IN THE PROPER WAY WITH SUFFICIENT ACCURACY. ON THE OTHER HAND, THERE IS ANOTHER IMPORTANT A SPECT OF THE RADIATION STANDARDS, THAT IS, THE NECESSITY OF EFFECTIVE DISSEMINATION SYSTEM OF THE STANDARDS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY AS WELL A S IN THE WORLD-WIDE SCALE. IN THE FOLLOWING, WE DESCRIBE THE CURRENT WORK IN THE FIELD OF DOSIMETRY STANDARDS, THE RESEARCH PROJECTS ON RAD IATION DOSIMETRY NOW IN PROGRESS IN ELECTROTECHNICAL LABORATORY (ETL), AND THE CURRENT STATUS OF THE DISSEMINATION SYSTEM IN THIS COUNTRY.
