Description/Abstract:
TWO DOSIMETRIC MODELS, THE CATENARY COMPARTMENTAL MODEL (BE70) AND THE SLUG FLOW MODEL (SK75) ARE EXAMINED USING THREE SETS OF PHYSIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS: (1) THOSE PROPOSED BY EVE (EV66), (2) THOSE PROPOSED BY I CRP (IC59), AND (3) THOSE OBTAINED FROM THE TEXTBOOK OF PHYSIOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY BY BELL ET AL. (BE72). THE EMPACT OF PHYSIOLOGICAL PARAM ETERS ON THE DOSIMETRY OF THE TRACT IS ILLUSTRATED BY COMPARING CALCUL ATED MAXIMUM PERMISSIBLE DAILY ACTIVITY INGESTION RATES FOR SINGLE, UN ABSORBED, PARTICLE EMITTING RADIONUCLIDES WITH AN EFFECTIVE ENERGY TER M OF UNITY. THE CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM THIS INTERCOMPARISON OF SIX DIF FERENT CASES ARE: (1) CURRENT DOSIMETRIC MODELS WHICH ARE PHYSIOLOGICA L PARAMETERS DESCRIBED IN THIS ARTICLE DO NOT SIGNIFICANTLY DISAGREE, AND (2) FOR THE DETERMINATION OF AVERAGE DOSE EQUIVALENT RATES TO SEGM ENTS OF THE TRACT DUE TO CHRONIC, LONG TERM INGESTION OF ANY RADIONUCL IDE, THE CATENARY COMPARTMENTAL MODEL IS A MATHEMATICALLY SIMPLER APPR OACH. THE CATENARY MODEL IN ADDITION HAS CERTAIN ADVANTAGES FOR THE CA LCULATION OF THE PHOTON DOSE CONTRIBUTION TO ONE SEGMENT FROM CUMULATE D ACTIVITY (DISINTEGRATIONS) IN ANOTHER SEGMENT.
