Description/Abstract:
THE ALLUVIAL SOILS OF THREE LIQUID WASTE DISPOSAL AREAS AT LOS ALAMOS WERE SAMPLED TO DETERMINE PLUTONIUM AND CESIUM DISTRIBUTIONAL RELATIO NSHIPS AND CORRELATIONS WITH SOIL PHYSICAL-CHEMICAL PROPERTIES. RADION UCLIDE CONCENTRATIONS WERE DETERMINED FOR SOIL PHYSICAL-CHEMICAL PROPE RTIES. RADIONUCLIDE CONCENTRATIONS WERE DETERMINED FOR SOIL SAMPLES AS A FUNCTION OF SOIL DEPTH AND DISTANCE FROM THE WASTE OUTFALL. THE CES IUM-PLUTONIUM DATA WERE CORRELATED WITH LEVELS OF ORGANIC CARBON, CARB ONATES, EXCHANGEABLE AND WATER-SOLUBLE CATIONS, PH, CATION EXCHANGE CA PACITY, BULK DENSITY, SURFACE AREA AND GEOMETRIC PARTICLE SIZE OF THES E SOILS. THE DISTRIBUTION PATTERNS OF SOIL PLUTONIUM AND CESIUM WERE A LSO COMPARED TO THE WASTE USE HISTORY OF THREE STUDY AREAS.
