Description/Abstract:
THE PARTICIPATION OF THE STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND IN OPERATION UPSHOT-KNO THOLE HAD AS PRIMARY OBJECTIVES THE TEST AND DEVELOPMENT OF CURRENT CA ABILITY FOR INDIRECT BOMB DAMAGE ASSESSMENT, THE ESTABLISHMENT OF STAN DING OPERATING PROCEDURES AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS TO ACHIEVE MAXIMUM PROFICIENCY IN INDIRECT BOMB DAMAGE ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES, AND THE FA MILIARIZATION AND INDOCTRINATION OF STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND CREWS IN ATO MIC OPERATIONS. IN GENERAL, THESE OBJECTIVES WERE ACHIEVED. THE MAJOR CONCLUSION IS THAT AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT HAS THE LATENT CAPABILITY FOR O BTAINING INDIRECT BOMB DAMAGE ASSESSMENT DATA IF SUFFICIENT TRAINING I S ACCOMPLISHED AND IF STANDING OPERATING PROCEDURES ARE PREPARED AND A PPLIED. ON THE BASIS OF THE STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND'S PARTICIPATION TENT ATIVE STANDING OPERATING PROCEDURES HAVE BEEN PREPARED AND A TRAINING PROGRAM HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED. IN ORDER TO REFINE FURTHER THE STANDING OPERATING PROCEDURES AND TO EVALUATE THE ESTABLISHED TRAINING PROGRAM A RECOMMENDATION IS MADE THAT THE STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND BE INCLUDED BE INCLUDED IN FUTURE ATOMIC TESTS ON A LARGE SCALE.
