Description/Abstract:
THIS PROJECT WAS CHARGED WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY OF CONDUCTION TESTS O N STATIC AIRCRAFT PANELS MOUNTED ON THE GROUND AT VARIOUS RANGES FROM THE BLAST. PROSSURE VERSUS TIME DATA WERE OBTAINED USING INTERFEROMET ER GUAGES. THE GUAGE PROVED TO BE RELIABLE AND EASY TO OPERATE. ITS HIGH-FREQUEN CY RESPONSE ENABLES IT TO RECORD DATA ON THE PRESSURE RISE AT THE FRON T OF THE BLAST WAVE WHICH HAD NOT BEEN NOTED PREVIOUSLY. THESE RESULT S SHOW, FROM MEASUREMENTS TAKEN BY PRESSURE INSTRUMENTS MOUNTED FLUSH WITH THE GROUND, THAT THE RISE TIMES AT THE FRONT OF THE BLAST WAVES W ERE ON THE ORDER OF MILLISECONDS. THESE RESULTS WERE (CONT.) RECORDED ON FILM IN AREAS OF RELATIVELY HIGH GAMMA-RADIATION INTENSITY BY THE SIMPLE EXPEDIENT OF STACKING A FEW LAYERS OF LEAD BRICK AROUND THE GUAGE MOUNTS.
