Description/Abstract:
DUE TO PROBLEMS OF POLLUTION BY DOMESTIC AND INDUSTRIAL WASTES, THE DI SPERSAL CHARACTERISTICS OF INNER OSLO FJORD HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED FOR SEVERAL DECADES BY THE INSTITUTE OF MARINE BIOLOGY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF OSLO. THE RESULTS OF THESE INVESTIGATIONS ARE EXAMINED WITH A VIE W TO FORECASTING HAZARDS OF CONTAMINATION BY NUCLEAR WEAPONS DEBRIS. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS INCLUDE THE PRONOUNCED STRATIFICATION OF WAT ER MASSES AND ORGANISMS, AND THE SLOW RATE OF EXCHANGE WITH THE OPEN S EA ACROSS THE NARROW AND SHALLOW FJORD ENTRANCE.
