Description/Abstract:
METHODS OF FORECASTING MOVEMENT OF RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINANTS IN TIDAL I NLETS ARE DISCUSSED IN RELATION TO THE INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS OF DEF ENCE AUTHORITIES. IT IS POINTED OUT THAT THE LIMITS OF USEFUL FORECAS TING ACCURACY CAN EASILY BE EXCEEDED DUE TO LACK OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT TH E EFFECTS OF RADIATION ON MAN AND MARINE ORGANISMS. PRELIMINARY STUDI ES AIMED AT DEVELOPING FORECASTING METHODS FOR DEFENCE SERVICES IN NOR WAY ARE REPORTED. BY USING AN ELECTRONIC COMPUTER, IT IS HOPED TO OBT AIN INFORMATION FOR SIMPLIFYING FORECASTING PROCEDURES, THUS MAKING TH EM MORE SUITABLE FOR PARTICULAR USES. RESULTS SO FAR INDICATE THAT MO RE DATA WILL BE NEEDED TO INCREASE FORECASTING ACCURACY TO THE LEVELS REQUIRED FOR BOTH SHORT - AND LONG - TERM DEFENCE PLANNING.
