MAJOR FEATURES OF THE ATMOSPHERIC-MIXI NG HISTORY AND WORLD-WIDE DISTRIBUTION OF FALLOUT ARE OUTLINED. SOME M AJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN UNITED STATES AND SOVIET TESTS ARE POINTED OU T. NUCLEAR TRACER EXPERIMENTS WHICH WILL CONTRIBUTE TO BETTER UNDERSTA NDING OF ATMOSPHERIC CIRCULATION AND FALLOUT ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED.
