Description/Abstract:
A REVIEW OF VARIOUS RESEARCH PROGRAMS DEALING WITH PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH CONTAMINATION OF SOILS AND PLANTS IS GIVEN. AS PART OF THE ATOMI C ENERGY COMMISSION'S FALLOUT PROGRAM, SOIL SAMPLING NETWORKS FOR ESTI MATING SURFACE DEPOSITION OF STRONTUIM-90 (SR90) HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED TO DETERMINE THE EFFECTS OF RADIATION ON SOILS, SOIL PROPERTIES, PLAN T CHARACTERISTICS AND SOIL-PLANT INTERRELATIONSHIPS. THESE STUDIES WER E SUMMARIZED HERE IN PREPARATION FOR A 1963 WORKSHOP ON "RADIONUCLIDES IN FOODS AND AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS".
