DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY AND ANGLE SPECTRA FROM A POINT ISTROPIC CS-137 SOU RCE IN AN EFFECTIVELY INFINITE MEDIUM OF SAND HAVE BEEN DETERMINED FOR X-RAY PENETRATIONS OF 1, 2 AND 3 MEAN FREE PATHS. THE SPECTRA WERE OB TAINED FROM SCINTILLATION SPECTROMETER MEASUREMENTS BY AN ANALYTIC MET HOD BASED ON THE SCORFIELD INTERATION SCHEME. AN INTEGRATION OF THE RE SULTS OVER ALL ANGLES YIELDED DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY SPECTRA WHICH ARE CO NSISTENT WITH INTERPOLATED VALUES OF GOLDSTEIN AND WILKINS" MOMENTS ME THOD CALCULATIONS FOR ALUMINUM.
