Description/Abstract:
THE HENRE EXPERIMENT, CONDUCTED AT THE NEVADA TEST SITE IN THE WINTER AND SUMMER OF 1967, WAS AN EXTENSION OF THE EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAMS RELA TED TO THE ICHIBAN PROGRAM TO DETERMINE THE DOSES RECEIVED BY THE SURV IVORS AT HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI. THIS REPORT PRESENTS THE DATA OBTAINE ON THE NEUTRON AND GAMMA-RAY DOSE AS A FUNCTION OF POLAR ANGLE, THE FA ST NEUTRON SPECTRUM AS A FUNCTION OF DISTANCE, AND THE HIGH ENERGY GAM MA-RAY SPECTRUM AS A FUNCTION OF POLAR ANGLE. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE NE UTRON SPECTRUM DID NOT REACH EQUILBRIUM WITHIN THE DISTANCES AT WHICH MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE. THIS HAS AN EFFECT ON THE DOSE ASA FUNCTION OF POLAR ANGLE MEASURED WITHE DIFFERENT AIR DENSITIES. IN ADDITION, THE M EASUREMENTS SHOW THE GAMMA-RAY DOSE RECEIVED FROM ANGLES BELOW THE AIR -GROUND INTERFACE IS AFFECTED BY THE DIFFUSE SOURCE OF GAMMA RAYS. WHE RE POSSIBLE, THESE DATA HAVE BEEN COMPARED WITH DATA FROM PREVIOUS FIE LD EXPERIMENTS. IN EVERY CASE, THEY WERE COMPARED WITH CALCULATIONS WH ICH APPROXIMATED THE EXPERIMENT. AGREEMENT IN BOTH CASES IS GENERALLY GOOD, AND THIS STRENGTHENS CONFIDENCE IN CALCULATED RESULTS.
