Description/Abstract:
THE EFFECT OF EXPOSURE ASPECT HAS BEEN STUDIED WITH SHEEP EXPOSED TO 1 MVP X-RAYS. THE CONVENTIONAL BILATERAL EXPOSURE LD-50/60 WAS 258R, W HILE THE UNILATERAL EXPOSURE LD-50/60 WAS 17 HIGHER, 303R. OTHER EXP OSURE ASPECT STUDIES DONE WITH DOGS AND SWINE ARE SUMMARIZED FOR COMPA RISON PURPOSES. THE SHEEP DATA WAS EVALUATED ACCORDING TO A HEMATOPOI ETIC STEM CELL SURVIVAL MODEL DEVELOPED BY BOND AND ROBINSON. IN ADDI TION, THE MODEL IS USED TO PREDICT THE EFFECT OF ANIMAL WIDTH UPON STE M CELL SURVIVAL AND THE LD-50. FOR UNILATERAL EXPOSURE, THE MODEL PRE DICTS A SIGNIFICANT EFFECT OF ANIMAL WIDTH AMONG SHEEP WIDTHS RANGING FROM 20.5 - 30.5 CM. AS THE MODEL IS PREDICATED UPON STEM CELL SURVIV AL KINETICS FOR THE MOUSE, THE POSSIBLE REASONS FOR SPECIES DIFFERENCE S RELATIVE TO THE MOUSE DATA ARE DISCUSSED WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE AS SUMPTIONS UPON WHICH THE MODEL IS BASED.
