DUE TO DISAGREEMENT OVER THE PRINCIPAL MODE OF ENTRY OF IODINE ISOTOPE S INTO THE BODY, I.E., THROUGH INGESTION OR INHALATION, CALCULATIONS T O ESTIMATE THYROID DOSE DIFFER. THE PROBLEM OF DOSE CALCULATIONS IS C OMPLICATED BY THE PRESENCE OF SHORT-LIVED IODINE ISOTOPES IN ADDITION TO THE PRESENCE OF I-131 AND TELLURIUM PRECURSORS. THIS PAPER PRESENT S A METHOD FOR DETERMINING THYROID DOSE FROM I-131 AND IT PRECURSORS, WITH THE CONTRIBUTIONS FROM SHORT-LIVED IODINE ISOTOPES ADDED SECONDLY . EXAMPLE CALCULATIONS ARE GIVEN FOR SHEEP INGESTION AND HUMAN INHALA TION.
