Description/Abstract:
A FILM DOSIMETRIC METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE BETA-RAY DOSE RECEIVED DI RECTLY BELOW THE CORNIFIED EPITHELIAL SURFACE OF THE SKIN (7 MG/CM-SQU ARED) FROM EXPOSURE TO FALL-OUT FISSION PRODUCTS WAS USED DURING OPERA TION TEAPOT. THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE SPECIAL FILM PACK REQ UIRED AND THE METHOD OF READING AND INTERPRETING THE FILMS ARE DISCUSS ED. NINE OR TEN PACKS WERE USED FOR EACH OF THE FOUR SHOTS OF INTERES T TO PROJECT 37.2, MARCH 7 (TURK), MARCH 29 (APPLE I), APRIL 15 (MET), AND MAY 5 (APPLE II). EACH PACK WAS EXPOSED ONLY ONCE. IN THE CASE OF THE FIRST TWO SHOTS, NO FALL-OUT OCCURRED AT THE PACK STATIONS SELE CTED. THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM FILM PACKS EXPOSED ON MET AND APPLE I I INDICATED THAT THE MAXIMUM INDIVIDUAL FALL-OUT PARTICLE SKIN DOSE VA RIED FROM GREATER THAN 3000 REP BETA AT 7 MILES FROM GROUND ZERO TO 47 0 REP BETA AT THE 140-MILE ARC. TABLES ARE INCLUDED WHICH SUMMARIZE T HE EXPOSURE CONDITIONS AND RESULTS FOR ALL THE FILM PACKS.
