Description/Abstract:
A COMPILATION OF INVESTIGATIONS BY SEVERAL AGENCIES ON THE PROBLEM OF UTAH SHEEP DEATHS OF UNKNOWN ETIOLOGY IS GIVEN. AFTER NOTICING UNUSU AL SYMPTOMS AND DEATHS IN THEIR SHEEP, UTAH SHEEPMEN NOTIFIED UTAH VET ERINARIAN A.C. JOHNSON WHO REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM THE STATE DEPARTM ENT OF AGRICULTURE VETERINARIAN AND U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE VET ERINARIAN. THERE WAS SUFFICIENT REASON TO BELIEVE THE DEATHS COULD BE RADIATION RELATED DUE TO THE NUCLEAR TESTING IN THE AREA. AID WAS RE QUESTED AND RECEIVED FROM THE U.S. PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE, WHICH SENT O UT INVESTIGATING TEAMS TO INTERVIEW SHEEP OWNERS AND CONDUCT EXAMINATI ONS. RESULTS OF THE EXAMINATIONS ARE INCLUDED AS IS DATA FROM INTERVI EWS AND SOIL AND PLANT STUDIES THAT WERE CONDUCTED. A MEDICAL HISTORY OF SELECTED HERDS OF UTAH SHEEP IS PRESENTED. NECROPSY REPORTS, MICR OSCOPIC FINDINGS AND RADIOASSAYS OF SELECTED TISSUES OF SEVERAL SHEEP ARE INCLUDED IN THE REPORT ALONG WITH A FALLOUT PATTERN MAP OF THE ARE A FOR OPERATION UPSHOT-KNOTHOLE.
