COMPLETE TITLE: CONTRACT NO. DA-49-146-XZ-315, MODIFICATION NO. 6, EXTENSION OF CONTRACT COMPLETION DATE AND INCORPORATION OF FINAL NEGOTIATED OVERHEAD RATES FOR FY 1968 AND FY 1969 (EFFECTIVE 14 JUNE 1969, INCLUDES MEMORANDUM RE: CONTRACT CLOSE-OUT, 14 SEPTEMBER 1970); THIS DOCUMENT IS A CONTRACT MODIFICATION BETWEEN DASA AND THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI. THE OVER-ALL OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEARCH WAS TO STUDY VARIOUS PHENOMENA OF BREAKDOWN OF DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID AND ITS DERIVATIVES AND OTHER ABNORMALITIES AFTER IRRADIATION, TO CLARIFY THESE MECHANISMS, AND TO DETERMINE WHETHER THESE WERE PRACTICAL BIOLOGICAL TESTS OF RADIATION EXPOSURE. THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI WAS TO ACCOMPLISH THE FOLLOWING: DEVELOPMENT OF METHODS OF DETECTION OF DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID BREAKDOWN PRODUCTS AND DERIVATIVES IN URINE AND BLOOD, DETERMINATION OF LEVELS OF THESE SEVERAL SUBSTANCES AT VARIOUS DOSES OF TOTAL OR PARTIAL BODY IRRADIATION, COMPARISON OF TOTAL VERSES PARTIAL BODY IRRADIATION, AND MAKE PRELIMINARY DETERMINATION OF APPROPRIATE PSYCHOMETRIC TESTS. APPROXIMATELY 15 PATIENTS WERE TO BE GIVEN RADIATION DOSAGE OF 150-300 RAD. THE TYPES OF RADIATION EXPOSURES WERE TO BE ACUTE OR FRACTIONATED BILATERAL, UNILATERAL, AND PARTIAL BODY FROM A COBALT 60 SOURCE AT A DOSE RATE OF ABOUT FOUR R PER MINUTE. ATTACHED ARE THE DASA MEMORANDA INITIATING CLOSURE OF THIS GRANT.
