Description/Abstract:
The purpose of the experiment is to obtain the scaling exponent for yields in a range of 100 to 200 kt at somewhat greater than the optimum depth of burial and to determine exponential parameters applicable to the Megaton Range. Theory and empirical experience indicate that scaling laws for crater formation are variable depending upon the yield of the detonation. It has been shown that for small detonations, i.e one kt, crater parameters vary as the 1/3.4 power of the yield. Theory indicates that with larger detonations, scaling should gradually change to the 1/4 power. This difference in scaling could represent sizable differences in megaton crater sizes.
