Description/Abstract:
The Advanced System for Weapon Test (ASWT) is a proposed program to provide the capability for nuclear weapon testing in outer space. The purpose of this Safety Study is to identify and consider the significant physical hazards associated with the proposed tests, to describe the protective measures or safety features incorporated in the system proposal and to indicate, if need be, measures or devices which could be included to provide additional safety. The ASWT program is, by its nature, a possible source of danger to life and property. Obviously not all of the hazards can be eliminated. However, technical devices and precautionary measures will be integrated into the system in order to provide maximum safety consistent with test objectives.
