Description/Abstract:
SQUID calculations show that a Helios vessel designed for a final chamber pressure of 100 atmospheres will be subjected to an initial pressure pulse of a few kilobars. This will of course produce a shock wave of the same magnitude in the vessel wall. In order to obtain a solution for the subsequent propagation of this shock, it is thought reasonable to treat it as a nondissipative, sonic velocity wave, propagation are then easily found for both the case of a solid and a laminate wall.
