Description/Abstract:
Several proposals for throat plug have recently been verbally suggested; some reasonable and some not so. It is felt that some very crude estimates of the properties of such device are entirely in order. As presently conceived the firing cycle of Helios is as follows: 1. The charge is positioned in the cavity and the cavity is sealed. 2. The energy deposited in the walls of the chamber by the previous change is removed by the propellant which is introduced to the chamber. 3. The energy of the charge is released to the propellant and the seal on the chamber is broken. 4. Hot propellant flows out of the chamber producing thrust.
