Description/Abstract:
A sample of neptunium oxide submitted by C.C. Cunningham has been definitely identified as NpO2. NpO2 is cubic face-centered with four molecules per unit cell. The lattice constant is a = 5.42A and the calculated density is 11.14. NpO2 has the fluorite type of structure. The crystal chemical significance of the results is discussed.
