Description/Abstract:
Solder-plug studies have continued with long-term tests on the lead-tin solders, and short-term tests on other solders having higher melting points. The long-term tests are corroborating earlier indications that life expectancies greater than 6 months should be obtainable. The short-term tests have shown that tin-silver and tin-antimony solders should provide even greater life expectancies than the lead-tin due to greater shear strengths at operating temperatures A different means of poison redistribution was tried and performed successfully, although a poor efficiency was obtained. This method consists of volatilizing a small volume of cadmium by the oxidation of uranium and allowing it to condense upon a relatively large surface.
