Description/Abstract:
Beryllium carbide is made by the high temperature reaction of beryllium oxide and graphite: 2BeO + 3C = Be2C + 2CO. This reaction is usually carried out in graphite crucibles in a hydrogen atmosphere at maximum temperatures in the range of 3900° F to 4100° F.
